About Marco

Marco Gliori was born, raised and educated in Warwick Queensland. After graduating from Warwick State High School Marco joined and served 10 years in the Queensland Police Service attaining the rank of Detective Senior Constable. Always the mischievous maverick, even as a copper, he left to pursue his love of Performance Poetry, and has forged a successful career from what is an obvious passion. Marco now lives on 62 acres on the Darling Downs with his wife Julie, where they raised three daughters, and have strong community ties.

A full-time entertainer, his original and mostly humorous poetry and anecdotes, depicting contemporary Australia are delivered with a unique and distinct country flavour striking a chord with audiences of all ages, and from all walks of life.

Marco is highly regarded across Australia, having been awarded the Spirit of Waltzing Matilda Award by ABC National Radio, presented to him by the late great Slim Dusty, and in recent years was selected by The Australian Women's Weekly as their modern day 'Banjo Paterson', a comparison that Marco immediately rejects.

No-one could emulate what writers like Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson achieved, but I'm happy and privileged to continue the tradition .

And continue the tradition, he has.  In his early days Marco toured with the Queensland and Victorian Arts Council's Artist in Education Program for over a decade, connecting with the youth of Australia, face to face, celebrating this land and her characters, with an upbeat attitude, all the while building a fan-base amongst younger readers.

Those who have seen Marco presenting his after-dinner sports and corporate brackets know there are many levels to his audience appeal. From the back bar of the North Gregory Hotel in Winton, to the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, his original poetry, comedy doggerel and yarns find themselves delivered on a diverse range of stages.

Marco regularly hosts and manages Performers for Bush Poets Breakfasts Shows at The Gympie Music Muster, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Woodford Festival, Winton Outback Festival, Oracles of The Bush Festival, and at Community Events from Brisbane Qld to Busselton W.A.

Marco is very approachable, so if you want some advice re Writing or Performing Poetry, or are keen to include this unique and highly entertaining style of entertainment at your next event, give him a call or email direct, and spark up the campfire.
