Marco Gliori is one of Australia’s premier performers of Bush Poetry.
A full-time entertainer, his original and mostly humorous poetry and anecdotes, depicting contemporary Australia are delivered with a unique and distinct country flavour striking a chord with audiences of all ages, and from all walks of life.
Marco is highly regarded across Australia having been awarded the Spirit of Waltzing Matilda Award by ABC National Radio, and selected by The Australian Women’s Weekly as their modern day ‘Banjo Paterson’, a comparison that Marco immediately rejects.
And continue the tradition, he has. In his early days Marco toured with the Queensland and Victorian Arts Council’s Artist in Education Program for over a decade, Marco connected with the youth of Australia, face to face, celebrating this land and her characters, with an upbeat attitude, all the while building a fan-base amongst younger readers.
Those who have seen Marco presenting his after-dinner sports and corporate presentations, know there are many levels to his audience appeal. From the back bar of the North Gregory Hotel in Winton, to the Regent Theatre in Melbourne, his original poetry, comedy doggerel and yarns find themselves delivered on a diverse range of stages.
In recent times Marco has hosted The National Sausage King Awards on the Gold Coast, performed at the National Young Auctioneers Finals Dinner in Sydney and was commissioned to present a poem at the Premiers Dinner in Melbourne, celebrating the journey of the Queens Baton making it’s way to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games, as well as taking time to promote the craft of storey-telling to schools as part of the Ipswich Poetry Feast.
Marco is host of The National Country Music Festival’s Bush Poets Program at Gympie, winner of numerous Bush Laureate Awards in Tamworth, and when he is not travelling lives on a picturesque Darling Downs Property with his wife Julie and their family.
